Toponymy of the word dederkoy. Dederkoy Dederkoy history

Dederkoy- the name of a small resort village in the Tuapse region; the village is located at the mouth of the river of the same name, which originates on the slopes of Otnoginaya (684 m.). The translation of the toponym is based on the proper name Deder and kuai - “cheese”. Thanks to Deder's art of making excellent cheese, the valley and the village were named. According to another version, the toponym is based on the proper name Dodoruk and the possessive affix - ay, which leads us to the name of the owner - “Dedera valley” (Adyghe). Dederkuay (Deder-kuay) is the name of a village in the Tuapse region. Some researchers believe that Dederkuai consists of two bases: Deder - a surname, kuai - “cheese”. Having correctly identified the first component of the toponym, these researchers merge the component kyo - “son” with the plural possessive affix - yay, as a result of which, in their opinion, the word kuay, i.e. “cheese” is formed. This is where the incorrect etymology of the word “Dederovsky cheese” comes from. Analyzing the name of the mentioned village, member of the Tuapse Geographical Society V.I. Shematulsky also comes to a similar conclusion. Establishing the meaning of Dederkuay, V.I. Shematulsky proceeds from an oral story that says that Deder cooked unusually large cheeses that were excellent in taste. This qualitative feature allegedly distinguished Deder, after whom the village was named. Ignoring the synchronous analysis of the morphological structure of the word and the word-formation model, as can be seen, can lead to an incorrect determination of the meaning of Deaderkuay. The Adyghe linguistic basis easily restores the etymology of this word, not only on the basis of the morphological model, about 20 Adyghe villages were formed. For example, Edzher + kuay, Khyati + kuay, Ponezhy + kuay, etc. The indispensable components in such geographical objects are, first of all, the surname or name of the owner of the village, object, and then comes the element kyo, meaning “son” and the possessive affix 3rd person plural -i (1a)

This dictionary entry tells how you can explain or translate into Russian the origin of the name Dederkoy. This decoding (explanation) of this toponym is given according to the book by A.V. Tverdy "Toponymic Dictionary of the Caucasus".

It is possible, and even certain, that there are typos and inaccuracies caused by both scanning and subsequent processing. There is not enough strength to “catch” them all alone, but you can - I will correct it. Also, due to the fact that this collection of dictionary entries contains books by several authors, different interpretations of the same name are possible - this is normal - the truth is born in a dispute. I would be grateful for the additions, clarifications and other works on toponymy sent

Basic moments

In the Adyghe language, the name “Dederkoy” means “aul of Dodoruk (Dedera)”. Like many resort towns on the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus, Dederkoy traces its history back to Cossack settlements established along the Black Sea coast in the second half of the 19th century. Today, about 800 people permanently live in the village. There are six streets running through it, mostly lined with private houses. Since Soviet times, there have been recreation centers “Green Guy” and “Izumrud” here, as well as two children’s health camps that operate during the summer season.

There are no multi-storey luxury hotels in Dederkoy, but there is a large selection of accommodation in the private sector, mini-hotels and guest houses. As in other resort areas, housing located closer to the sea costs more than rooms and rooms, from which you have to walk half an hour to the beaches. During the summer tourist season, the village has several cafes and canteens, a bathhouse and a sauna. According to reviews from old-timers, a holiday here is noticeably cheaper than in Tuapse and even more so in the Greater Sochi area.

Tourists who come to Dederkoy can enjoy not only good beaches and warm sea. 6 km from the mouth of the Dederkoy River there is a picturesque cascade of six waterfalls, and not far from it in the village of Paseka there is a monkey nursery. From the village, walks to the waterfall in the Bear Gap gorge and ancient dolmens are also popular.

Vacationers in Dederkoy have the opportunity to play paintball, go horseback riding along the forested spurs of the Caucasus Mountains, dive for mussels, ride a boat along the rocky sea coast, or go fishing in the open sea. For other entertainment - nightclubs, museums and water parks - you need to go to larger resort areas, towards Tuapse or Sochi.

Beaches of the village of Dederkoy

Where the Dederkoy River flows into the Black Sea, there is a large-pebble Central Beach, about 100 m long. The coastal strip on this section of the coast is not very wide - up to 20 m, and narrows to the south to 5 m. There are not many people on the Dederkoy Central Beach . The descent into the water is gentle everywhere, the seabed has no potholes or holes, the water is very clean, and therefore it is safe to swim here. In summer, the air temperature warms up to +30 °C, and the sea temperature reaches a comfortable +28 °C.

For vacationers on the Central Beach there are a lot of water activities - jet skiing, parasailing behind a boat, banana boats and cheesecakes. Boats depart from numerous piers, where you can go on an interesting boat trip or fishing in the open sea.

To the north stretches the beach of the children's health camp "Green Light". It is about 100 m long and up to 20 m wide. It is a well-equipped departmental beach area with its own lifeguard station, first aid station and cafe.

To the south of the Central Beach in Dederkoy lies the beach of the children's health camp "Salut", landscaped with shady canopies and changing rooms. Behind it there is a departmental guarded beach belonging to the boarding house “Green Guy”. It stretches for 100 m and is covered with small and medium pebbles. On the Green Guy beach there is a permanent rescue station, a first aid station and many piers, which are very popular with fishermen and divers.

The passages to all Dederkoy beaches are under the railway bridges. During the holiday season, the coastal area of the resort village is cleared of garbage every day. On the beaches you can rent sun loungers and parasols, dine in cafes and undergo therapeutic massage sessions. For children in the coastal area, rentals of mini-ATVs and bicycles are organized, as well as inflatable water attractions and small trampolines. The only drawback of all local beaches is the noise from trains passing along the shore.

Walk along the Dederkoy river valley

In the valley of the Dederkoy River, 6 km above its confluence with the Black Sea, there is a cascade of waterfalls. The two largest of them reach a height of 7 m, and the rest are about 3 meters high. The gorge around the waterfalls is very picturesque. Its bottom is covered with a heap of large blocks and boulders, and layers of sandstone are entwined with garlands of green ivy.

Nearby, near the confluence of its right tributary, the Dede River (or Western Dederkoy), with the Dederkoy, there is a small village called Paseka, with only 9 houses. In 1972, several pairs of monkeys were brought here from Ethiopia. The location for placing the primates was not chosen by chance. A small valley near Paseka is well protected from the winds by the surrounding hills. Chestnuts, walnuts, apple trees, wildflowers and cherry plums grow in it, so the food supply for breeding hamadryas and baboons was quite sufficient.

The primates began to multiply quickly, and at the best of times their numbers reached 400 individuals. In the 1990s, due to lack of funding, the nursery was abandoned, and the monkeys were released into the wild. Today, about 50 individuals live here, leading a semi-wild lifestyle. Monkeys have learned to get their own food and love to beg from tourists. This place is considered the northernmost territory inhabited by monkeys in the world.

Above the village of Paseka, on the right tributary of the Dederkoy River - the Medvezhye stream, there is another waterfall. It is located in a place that locals call “Bear Gap”. A noisy stream of water 14 m high cascades into a narrow, beautiful canyon and is surrounded by sheer rock walls up to 100 m high.

The walk to the waterfalls and primate nursery goes up the Dederkoy River valley. In summer, the river is shallow, and it is not difficult to cross from bank to bank on rocks. The road to Paseka takes about two hours. The same amount of time needs to be planned for the return trip.

Paintball club

The place where vacationers can play paintball is located above the village of Dederkoy, on the right bank of the river of the same name. This is a popular paintball club “Gladiators”, where you can rent the necessary equipment - camouflage, body armor, masks, markers, gas cylinders, refills and balls.

Dueling and battle games are held at the equipped training ground, in which, in addition to tourists, experienced instructors and judges take part. There is also a recreation area with a barbecue, table, benches and a convenient place for swimming, where small groups can have a pleasant time. You can get to the paintball club along Sovkhoznaya Street in the village of Dederkoy.

Dolmens

3.5 km north of the highway, between the villages of Dederkoy and Shepsi, on a green mountain slope there are ancient dolmens. Three of the four megaliths have been destroyed by time. And the only complete megalith belongs to the so-called “trough-shaped” dolmens - its walls are hollowed out from a single piece of sandstone. A characteristic round hole was made in one of the walls, which was previously closed with a stone plug. The massive roof of the dolmen lies next to it and is split into pieces. You can reach the megaliths along a path from the village of Dederkoy.

Excursions from Dederkoy

The resort village of Dederkoy has regular bus and train connections to other parts of the coast, so it’s easy to go on independent excursions from here. A trip on your own to Tuapse will not be tiring and will only take half a day. In the resort town there is a Defense Museum, telling about the ancient history of the Tuapse region and the battles for the Caucasus during the Great Patriotic War. Near Tuapse there are picturesque natural monuments - the high Kiseleva rock and the green Kadosh forest park, overgrown with Pitsunda and Crimean pine trees.

During the high tourist season in Dederkoy, you can buy bus tours and go to interesting places on the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus. From the resort village they take you to a mountain apiary, to the picturesque Guam Gorge, to the “Weeping Rocks” near the village of Nadzhigo, to the Nebug dolphinarium “Aquamir”, to waterfalls in the Ashe and Shah valleys, as well as on an excursion to the sights of Abkhazia.

Transport

The railway connecting Tuapse and Sochi passes through Dederkoy. The railway station is located south of the mouth of the Dederkoy River. High-speed Lastochka trains and regular electric trains run from here in both directions every day. The road from Dederkoy to the Olympic Park in Sochi takes just over three hours, and you can get to Tuapse in just 14 minutes.

Buses travel along the highway through Dederkoy, connecting resort villages and cities on the Black Sea coast. Every day, several regular buses pass through the stop on Club Street, heading towards Tuapse and Sochi.

Based on the prices in our catalog for holidays in Dederkoy in 2019, we can conclude that housing here is affordable and quite economical. The cost of living depends on the season and distance from the coastline. After all, the village does not stretch along the coast, but perpendicular to it. Although from the most remote corners to the beach it takes no more than 25-30 minutes to walk. To enter the beach area you must cross the railway track.

general information

Dederkoy is a village that is part of the Shepsinsky settlement, which, in turn, is part of Greater Tuapse. The number of local residents does not exceed 700 people, but hundreds of times more come to Dederkoy on vacation every year, and everyone has a place on the beach, in local hotels, and in the private sector. The infrastructure of the village is quite simple and is aimed at meeting the primary demand of vacationers. There are no large entertainment centers here, and they are not needed. Firstly, Tuapse is nearby, and secondly, holidays here are valued precisely for the peace and tranquility.

The history of the village dates back to 1923. At least the first official document dates back to this year. At one time, Dederkoy was even part of the city of Tuapse, but then it was again separated into an independent settlement. The name comes from the Adyghe language, and can be translated as “Dydyra beam”, i.e. place of residence of some Adyghe family.

Among the local attractions that you should see when you come on vacation to Dederkoy are quite a few unique natural spots located along the Tuapse coast and in the foothills of the Caucasus range. It is best to purchase one or another tour, for example, to the Dederkoya and Shepsi waterfalls or a walking tour of the local dolmens. Many people prefer to come to Tuapse for the day, wandering around the local forest park at Cape Kadosh and taking pictures against the backdrop of the famous Kiseleva rock. About seven kilometers away is the Nadzhigo mineral spring, which is the reason for the longevity of the mountaineers living in the neighboring village. And for fishing lovers, Dederka is an ideal place with its piers and coastal waters rich in fish.

The beach in Dederkoy stretches along the coast from the boarding house “Green Guy” in the south to the children’s health camp “Green Light” in the north. These are mainly medium and small pebbles, sometimes replaced by sandy stripes. A distinctive feature of the local beach is a large number of stone piers, running literally every few hundred meters. They are loved by divers and fishermen. The width of the beaches is small, does not exceed 15-20m. The entrance to the beach is limited by the railway track. Access to beaches, including sanatorium beaches, is open, with the exception of the use of sun loungers.
