And if you bake this cake from frozen berries, then first of all, be sure to defrost them at room temperature. I usually defrost in a colander. And I put the colander in a large bowl. With this method, all excess liquid immediately flows into a bowl, leaving us with cherries suitable for baking.

And if the cherries are fresh, as this time with me, then I always start by removing the seeds from well-washed berries. It's great if there is a special device, but it's not scary if it is not. By the way, I also put pitted cherries in a colander (and under it - a mandatory bowl), then the excess juice will drain, and the cake will not be too wet afterwards.

While the cherries are draining, take the butter out of the fridge and let it soften.


To prepare the dough, let's first deal with the "dry ingredients". Mix flour, starch, baking powder. In the same mixture, you need to add nutmeg (ground). If you want a more spicy taste, then add cloves, cinnamon, and ginger.


Separately, you need to beat the eggs with sugar, you don’t need to be too zealous, it’s enough to make foam appear.


Dissolve cocoa powder in half a glass of cold milk. In principle, you can do otherwise - add cocoa powder to the flour mixture, and pour the milk separately into the dough. But it's more convenient for me.


We collect the dough together. Melted butter is combined with cocoa dissolved in milk. Beat lightly with a mixer (or even a whisk), we need the ingredients to dissolve into each other. Now we put the resulting oil mixture in eggs beaten with sugar, mix thoroughly (better still from top to bottom, with smooth movements) and add a little cognac.

I can’t say that cognac is the most essential ingredient in this recipe. But it is known that alcohol is an excellent dough baking powder, with it the dough will be more beautiful, smoother, softer, more porous. And that's not counting the subtle aromatic notes that cognac will give to the pie. In addition, with alcohol, the cake will bake better and become even lighter and more airy. If you don’t have cognac on hand, then vodka, rum or other strong alcoholic drink can easily replace it.

Now add the flour mixture to the resulting mass, mix everything. The dough is ready!

I baked this cake in a detachable form, and so that the cake would definitely not stick to the bottom, I cut out a circle from parchment, simply tracing the contours of the bottom of the form with a pencil. So, in the form at the bottom, I put parchment (baking paper), lightly grease it with a brush with vegetable or butter.


Let's get back to the practically prepared cherries. “Practically” - because the berries still need to be sprinkled with starch and shake the colander slightly so that the starch evenly envelops all the cherries. So you can be sure that all the berry filling will not fall down the bottom of the pie.

At the bottom of the form, I pour the third part of the finished dough. On top of it I spread cherries and pieces of chocolate. I had milk chocolate this time. But you can use the one you like best. Now again a layer of dough, cherries and chocolate. The last layer will be the dough.


It is difficult to say with confidence how long the cake will be baked, because each housewife has her own oven with her own character. I usually bake for 60-70 minutes at about 170 degrees. Focus on the features of your oven. Check readiness, as always, with a wooden skewer or toothpick. If it comes out of the cake dry, then the cake is ready!

The pie is delicious both hot and cold. It can be served with ice cream. Or sprinkle with powdered sugar and chocolate. Pour a cup of fragrant coffee or tea to the cake. Or a glass of cold milk or compote. The result will always be amazing!

How to cook chocolate pie with cherries in a slow cooker (recipe):

    In a small bowl, beat eggs with sugar until foamy. Use the mixer at the highest speed and beat for 5 minutes. Mix dry ingredients. Add vanilla sugar and baking powder to the sifted flour and mix everything.

    Mix dry ingredients with egg mixture until smooth. Add the cherries to the resulting dough, after draining the excess juice and mix everything.

    Grease a baking dish with butter and carefully place the dough into it.

    Send the form with the dough to the slow cooker for 60 minutes by selecting the “BAKING” mode.

    After the baking time has elapsed, let the cake cool for another 10-15 minutes without removing it from the multicooker.

    After the expiration date, remove the cake from the mold and cut into pieces. Can be served at the table.

    Having cut the cake with a pastry thread into 3 equal parts, you can grease each cake with Glace cream and you will get a wonderful chocolate-cherry cake.

    In a small saucepan, prepare sugar syrup at a ratio of 4:1. To do this, add sugar to the water and boil over low heat until the sugar dissolves and caramel is obtained. Cool to room temperature.
